Jacques Staelen Obituary
A 1969 graduate of Mt. St. Charles Academy, where he was the recipient of the All Mountie Award, and a 1973 graduate of Marquette University, Mr. Staelen was the Vice President of Sport Systems Custom Bag Corp., Woonsocket. Jacques was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Woonsocket and was a volunteer for its parish festival. He was also very active with the Boy Scouts, having earned the Eagle Scout Award and the Silver Beaver Award, serving as an assistant scoutmaster, overseeing the consolidation of the Thundermist and Blackstone Valley Districts, serving as District Chair Thundermist, serving as District Chair of Thunder Valley, a member of the Executive Board for the Narragansett Council and the Northeast Region and a member of the Narragansett Council Fleur-de-lis Club. Additionally, he had been a member of the Jaycees and the Napoleon Club.
Besides his wife Lorraine and mother Andree, he is survived by his brother Marc Staelen and his wife Claire of North Smithfield, his sister Nicole DeYoung and her husband Eric of Chapin, SC and his nieces and nephew: Dr. Kristen DeYoung Pitts, Evan DeYoung, Danielle and Sophie Staelen and Gabrielle Harnois.
His funeral will be held Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 9AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 1409 Park Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, 314 Wrentham Rd., Bellingham, MA. Calling hours are Friday from 2-4 and 6-8. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Narragansett Council, BSA, P.O. Box 14777, East Providence, RI 02914-0777 and the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. www.holtfuneralhome.com
