Leo Martinelli Obituary

BLACKSTONE - Leo Martinelli, 84, of Blackstone, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester with loving family by his side. He is the beloved husband for 60 years of the late Gertrude C. (Bergeron) Martinelli.

Born in Blackstone on Jan. 21, 1932, he was the son of the late Henry and Eva (Morin) Martinelli. He is the loving father of Leo H. Martinelli Jr. and his wife, Christine, of Blackstone, Richard J. Martinelli and his wife, Rita, of Bellingham, and Marie Rose Martinelli of Blackstone. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Roland Martinelli and his wife, Jennifer, Sandra Babineau, Jessica Cote, Stephanie Martinelli, Stacy Cote and Leo R. Martinelli; and four great-grandchildren, Mariah and Dominic Martinelli, Elizabeth and Emma Ferguson. He is the brother of Beatrice Desilets, Louis Martinelli, Ernest Martinelli and Lorraine St. John, all of Blackstone, and the late Henry Martinelli Sr. Rita Martinelli, PM, Raymond Martinelli and Florence Lavimodiere.

A lifelong resident of Blackstone, Leo was a graduate of Mount Saint Charles Academy Class of 1950.

He owned and operated Martinelli Oil Company in Blackstone. He was an intermittent police officer for the Town of Blackstone and served as a constable for 50 years.

Leo was a communicant and devoted active church member of St. Theresa's Church in Blackstone, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, choir member and member of the League of Sacred Heart. He was a lifelong member of the Millerville Men's Club.

Leo enjoyed bowling and playing ping-pong with family and friends. He loved to sing and play the guitar and harmonica. His greatest joy was being with his family. Leo will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 9 a.m. from CARTIER'S FUNERAL HOME, 151 South Main St. (Route 126), Bellingham, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa's Church, 630 Rathbun St., Blackstone. Interment will follow at St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, Slatersville. Visiting hours are on Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

To all the family and friends of Leo...my heart and prayers go out to you. The last time I saw him he said when I die don't cry for me ...I will be with my wife that I miss so much and with JESUS. My Dear cousin you were so beautiful and Holy. I am happy your peaceful now. I will miss you so much. Do to my battle with 3 types of breast cancer I will not be able to attend your funeral..
