Mary Liard
MILLVILLE - Mary Liard, 95, a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2024, at the Lydia Taft House in Uxbridge. She was the wife of the late Roy A. Liard who passed away in 1981.
Born on February 7, 1929, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, Mary was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sophie (Kozaka) Popek. Her life was a testament to her faith-filled and thoughtful nature, touching the lives of all who knew her.
Mary spent her entire life in the town of Millville, where she established deep roots and contributed to the community she adored. A dedicated nurse, Mary's career at Woonsocket Hospital spanned many years, during which she provided comfort and care to countless patients with unwavering compassion and professionalism. She was a graduate of the Milford Hospital School of Nursing.
Beyond her professional life, Mary's home was a hub of warmth and joy. She delighted in relaxing around her pool. Her home was the go-to spot for family birthday and holiday celebrations. Her love for yard work was evident in the beautiful surroundings that she meticulously maintained. Mary also found pleasure in the kitchen, cooking up her favorite Polish delights for anyone lucky enough to sit at her table. Her culinary skills were a source of pride and enjoyment, especially when shared with loved ones.
Mary's zest for life extended to her leisure activities. She cherished the serenity of the White Mountains and the adventures found in traveling to Vermont and her yearly excursions to Florida. A lifelong member of the now-former St. Augustine Church, Mary was actively involved with the church's St. Monica Guild, demonstrating her unwavering faith.
Her Sunday dinner table was never exclusive; Mary made sure there was always a plate for anyone who might join, embodying her innate thoughtfulness and generosity. She created an atmosphere of inclusion and warmth, ensuring everyone felt like part of the family.
Mary's own family was the cornerstone of her life. She is survived by her son, Roy J. Liard, Sr. and his wife Linda of Millville, and her loving daughter, Lois A. Trottier and her husband Leo of Millville. Her legacy continues through her five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mary also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Popek.
Visiting hours will be Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 10 11:30 am in the Buma Funeral Home, 101 N. Main Street, Rte. 122, Uxbridge, MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon in Divine Mercy Parish, 48 St. Paul Street, Blackstone, MA.
