Ronald Elias Obituary

NORTH SMITHFIELD – Ronald F. Elias, 82, of North Smithfield, passed away unexpectedly on May 3, 2018. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late George and Louise (Joseph) Elias, and a North Smithfield resident for more than 50 years. He was the husband of Juliette (Binette) Elias.

He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Israni and son-in-law, Vinod Israni, and two grandsons, Rohan and Ajay Israni, all of Greenville; two sisters, Joanne and her husband Dr. Mario DiNunzio of North Smithfield and Carole Whiteley of Blackstone, and many nieces and nephews.

He was a 1954 graduate of Woonsocket High School, then serving as an airman in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-1958. He graduated from Livingston State College in Alabama in 1964. He went on to teach in the Attleboro Public School Department at both the middle and high school levels for 28 years, retiring in 1992.

"Moose" as he was known by his friends, enjoyed meeting the regularly for a cup of coffee and conversation...he had a great sense of humor. He loved to drive and often was up early heading to Fall River or New Bedford. Ron would do anything for a friend and his family. He will always be remembered wearing his trademark beige chinos and blue button-down shirt.

His funeral will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2018, beginning with visitation at 9 a.m. in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket, followed by a service at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be immediately following in Union Cemetery, Smithfield Road, North Smithfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville, RI 02828.

I'm so sorry to hear about Moose. I have such fond memories of cousin Ron. He always made a special effort to get together when our family came into town. He was full of laughter. May he Rest In Peace.

Elizabeth, my friendship with your father, Moose, dates back to our days as roommates at Livingston State College in the early '60s. We created great memories and had many fun times. The most important memory was when he was elected Student Body President despite my being his campaign manager.

More recently, we traveled back to Livingston for our 50th reunion, where tall tales were told and old friendships renewed.

Through all of the years, we stayed in touch and I finally made the promised visit up to see him two years ago. For many years, Moose would show up at my home in Richmond, unannounced, but was always welcomed. Then, just as he arrived, he would leave...unannounced. That's the way your dad was and I shall miss him.

Although we haven't seen Ronnie in many years, we have a long history of visits from Ronnie in Worcester and Hampden which we all enjoyed.

It is with love and affection that we remember him, probably the best memories possible.

Our sympathies are with all of you , Elizabeth, Julie, Joanne and Carol.
