Ronald Poirier Obituary

MANVILLE - Ronald G. Poirier, 66, of Manville died Sunday in the Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket after a long illness. He was the husband of Elizabeth M. "Betsy" Vose.Born in Woonsocket, a son of Gertrude C. (Ethier) Bouvier of Tiverton, RI and the late George H. Poirier, Jr., he lived all of this life in the Woonsocket area. Ron worked as a counter at the Lincoln Race Track and Twin River Casino for over 10 years. He was a graduate of Rhode Island College with a BA in English and taught at Lincoln Senior High School.
During Vietnam he served in the United States Merchant Marine.
He was a lover of literature and music, especially the blues.
Besides his wife and mother, Ron is survived by four brothers, George Poirier of McDonough, GA, Dennis Poirier of San Diego, CA, Kenneth Poirier of Bloomington, IL, and Peter Poirier of Tiverton; three sisters, Patrice Coleman of Tiverton, Melanie Ladd of York, ME, and Maryse E. Hathaway of Portsmouth; also many nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will be held Saturday from 1-2 PM with a ceremony at 2 in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 S. Main St., Woonsocket, RI. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
