Ronald L. Wunschel
PAWTUCKET - Ronald L. Wunschel, 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, September 6, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Cheryl (Lallier) Wunschel for
fifty-seven years.
A lifelong
resident of Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Louis F. and Margaret E. (Richard) Wunschel.
Ron was a graduate of William E. Tolman High School, Class of 1964 and was United States Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, having served aboard the USS Forrest Sherman (DD 931) and later with the Reserve Mobile Construction Battalion Twelve out of Davisville, RI.
He went on to further his education having completed his associate degree from Johnson & Wales Jr. College, Class of 1967, and subsequently his Bachelor of Science degree from Johnson & Wales University in 1973. Ron continued his education at School of Bank Administration at the University of Wisconsin where he received his diploma for banking studies in 1976.
Ron worked in finance for over forty years, having served in the following positions: He served as head of finance at Attleboro Trust and South Shore Bank in Quincy, Greenwood Credit Union in Warwick and finance director for the City of Pawtucket for thirteen years. He also served as the senior vice-president of Durfee Attleboro Bank while simultaneously serving as treasurer and CFO. Ron was also a member of the board of directors of Columbus Credit Union, an advisory board member of Navigant Credit Union, the Pawtucket Water Supply Board and the City of Pawtucket Pension Board until his retirement.
Besides his loving wife, Ron leaves two children, Randy L. Wunschel and his fiance, Erica Collins of Johnston and Nicole M. Rodrigues of Pawtucket; three grandchildren, Kyle J. Rodrigues, Heidi J. and Elliot G. Wunschel; a sister, Karen Zapata and her fianc, Keith Nicholson, of Pawtucket; a sister-in-law, Jody Burgess of East Greenwich; many special nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, extended family and cherished friends.
The funeral will be held on Friday, September 12th at 10 a.m. from WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Teresa Church, 358 Newport Ave., Pawtucket. Interment will follow at Swan Point Cemetery in Providence. VISITATION will be held on Thursday, September 11th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02905 would be appreciated.
