William J. Masse

1937 - 2019

PAWTUCKET – William J. Masse, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 26, 2019. Bill was the husband of Julia (Mauricio) Masse for 59 years.

A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Leo and Mary (O'Brien) Masse. Bill was the manager of Howell Smith Druggist for over 50 years, and he also worked for the State of Rhode Island in legislative services for 12 years.

In his younger years, Bill enjoyed golfing, skiing, traveling and spending time at the beach. Throughout all his years, he most enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a communicant of St. John Paul II Parish (St. Cecilia Church).

Bill is survived by his children, Julie Hanna and her husband, Michael, of Wakefield; Brenda Masse of Yardley, Penn.; William Masse, Jr. and his wife, Cheryl (Dragon), of Richmond; and Joyce Troy and her late husband, Greg, of Smithfield. Bill was the granddad of Ryan and Brooks Fitzpatrick, Michael and Greg Hanna, and Hannah, Will and Riley Masse, and was the great-granddad of Brayden and Lily. Bill is survived by his two brothers, Thomas and John and he was the brother of the late Leo, Joan and Raymond Masse and Catherine (Thurber), and uncle to many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 30, at 9 a.m. from WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. in St. Cecilia Church, 755 Central Ave., Pawtucket. Burial will follow in Mount Saint Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket. VISITATION will be Tuesday, January 29, from 3 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to St. John Paul II Parish, 699 Central Ave., Pawtucket, RI 02861 will be appreciated.
