Dolores L. Steil

Dolores L. Steil, 97, of Beloit, WI, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 13, 2025 in her home at Riverside Terrace, in the loving presence of her family. She was born on August 28, 1928 in Appleton, WI, to Oscar and Edna (Schmidt) Radtke. Dolores graduated from Appleton High School in 1946 and the University of Madison in 1950, with degrees in physical education and home economics. She married Melbourne Steil Jr. on May 19, 1951 in Appleton, WI. He predeceased her on July 11, 2009. She was employed by the Beloit School system as a substitute teacher for over 35 years. Dolores was a very active person, always advocating for people to keep moving. She taught exercise classes at Beloit Corporation and the YMCA for many years. Her final "Y's way to fitness" class was in August 2023 when she was 94. She also enjoyed cheering on the Badgers and Packers. Dolores was a very social person. She loved family vacations "up north' as well as other trips, with friends and family, both locally and overseas. Dolores was a very active member of St. John's Lutheran Church most of her adult life. She had a very strong faith. Survivors include children, Karen (Michael) Hollensteiner, Kurt (LeaAnn Mattox) Steil, and Valerie Steil; grandchildren, Steven (Meg) Hollensteiner, Sara (Florian Garbe) Hollensteiner and Kristina (David) Johnson; great grandchildren, Tessa, Sadie, Iliza, and two more on the way; sister, Verna Strelow-Purdom; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Dolores was predeceased by her parents, husband, Melbourne, son, James Steil, brother, Claude Radtke and sister, Marilyn Hinz. A Memorial service for Dolores will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 24, 2025 in St. John's Lutheran Church. Inurnment will be in Floral Lawn Cemetery. Visitation of remembrance will be from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. Friday in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to the Susan G.
