John Sledge Obituary

John L. Sledge of Calumet City, IL departed this earthly life October 17, 2025. He was born November 27, 1941 in Charleston, MS the son of George Sr. and Mary Sledge. John lived in the Chicago area 60 years after leaving Rockford. John was employed as a product engineer designer many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Vietnam War. John was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, serving in the Choir. He graduated from Auburn High School and attended Northern Illinois University. John leaves to cherish many loving memories, one son, Timothy (Dorothy) Sledge; one grandson, SL Lamar (Tiera) Sledge, and granddaughter, Timea Sledge; one great grandson, Kahleal Sledge; brother, Eddie Sledge; four sisters, Fannie Foote, Crystal Sledge, Barbara (Eli) Moye and Shirley Sledge; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends including childhood friend Sam Johnson and special friend Tony Bush. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Jessie Parham; five brothers, Harvey, George Jr., Clarence, Arthur and Robert Sledge. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at Trinity United Church of Christ 400 W 95th St. Chicago, IL 60628. Visitation 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial Wednesday, 12:00 noon in Cedar Bluff Cemetery Rockford, IL.
