Bruce Rains Obituary

Mr. Bruce Steven Rains, a cherished man known for his loving nature, thoughtfulness, and handy touch, passed away at the age of 63 on October 19, 2025, at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, Illinois. Born on May 9, 1962, in Sullivan, Indiana, Bruce was a beacon of warmth and affection within his community and among his beloved family. The son of the late Gerald B. and Janet (Van Doel) Rains, Bruce carried the legacy of his parents' values and compassion throughout his life. He grew up in a home filled with love and support, which he later extended to his own family. Bruce was the proud father of Shandra (Samantha) Rains, Hutsonville, IL; Shayna (Austin) Brasfield, Hutsonville, IL; the loving grandfather to Jase and Jasper Lingle, whose lives he enriched with his endless generosity and guidance. Bruce shared a special bond with his siblings, who will miss him dearly: his brother Gerand B. "Bud" (Tara) Rains of Hutsonville, IL; his sister Ms. Debra Nidey, Marshall, IL and his sisters and brothers-in-law, Georgeanne (Paul) Pinkston, Old York, IL and Susan (Douglas) Spurgeon, Indianapolis, IN. Bruce was preceded in death by his Parents, sisters, Terry Adams and Melissa A. Richardville, who are surely welcoming him with open arms. Bruce was a graduate of Hutsonville High School, class of 1980, and soon after, he devoted several years of his working life as a Service Station Attendant for Art Woolverton's Mobile Gas Station and as a Bulk Fuel and Oil Delivery Driver. Later he worked as a Farm Hand for several local farmers in the Hutsonville, Illinois area. His work ethic and commitment to his job were evident to all who knew him, as was his deep-rooted devotion to his family, which guided him in every aspect of his life. To describe Bruce as loving, thoughtful, and handy is to touch only the surface of his character. He was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was fixing something around the house or spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. Those who had the privilege of knowing Bruce will remember his kind smile, his gentle demeanor, and his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Bruce embodied this sentiment, leaving a legacy of kindness and service that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to cross his path. As we bid farewell to Mr. Bruce Steven Rains, we celebrate the life of a man who was truly a blessing to his family and his community. He will be dearly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in peace, knowing that his life was a testament to the power of love and the strength of the human spirit. A visitation will be held on Sunday October 26, 2025, from 1:30 pm until a Family Led Celebration of Life Service at 3:30 PM at Pulliam Funeral Home in Hutsonville, IL.
