James Dorraugh Obituary

James "Jim" Dorraugh, age 83, of Linton, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, August 30, 2025, at Glenburn Home in Linton. Born on June 8, 1942, in Linton, Jim was the son of Fredrick Leo and Vena E. (Johnson) Dorraugh. After graduating with the Linton-Stockton High School Class of 1961, Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army. Returning home, he first worked alongside his stepfather tending the family orchard, before embarking on a career path that reflected his strong work ethic, skilled hands, and quiet determination. He spent time at General Electric, and was a union coal miner at Jasonville Shops until following its closure. He worked as a precision machinist for Lewellyn, until going to Hawthorn Coal Mine where he retired in 1998. A man of faith, Jim was deeply proud of his baptism on November 2, 2023 at Dugger Church of Christ - a milestone in his spiritual journey that brought him immense peace. Over the years he attended services at both the Dugger Church of Christ and the Nine Mile Community Church. He was also a dedicated member of his community, belonging to the Linton B.P.O. Elks Lodge #866 for 50 years and the Linton American Legion Post #22. Jim was much more than his titles or work. He was a man who delighted in simple joys: cultivating the family orchard, carefully adding to his vast model train collection, and dedicating hours to building and flying model airplanes. A gifted woodworker, Jim had a special talent for turning birdhouses into pieces of art - small creations that carried the same care he gave to everything in his life. He was also a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, with fond memories that stretched from cruising on his very first Cushman to the freedom of riding his last Harley Davidson. Above all, Jim loved his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 10 years, Beverly (Gabbard) Pilant-Dorraugh; two step-children, Brian (Karen) Pilant and Laura (Kuldip) Wadhwan; five grandchildren, Kelsy Pilant, Bryant Pilant, Larissa Mitchell, Kady (Jake) Copeland, and Jaden Wadhwan; and two great-grandchildren, Phoebe and Embry; mother-in-law, Vee Gabbard; brother-in-law, Danny (Linda) Gabbard; and a sister-in-law, Carla Friestad. He was welcomed into eternal rest by those who went before him: his parents, Fredrick Leo Dorraugh and Vena E. (Johnson) Dorraugh-Talbott; his step-father, John E. Talbott; his daughter, Filinda Lu Dorraugh-Farris; and his step-brother, John Talbott. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm (noon) on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton, with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Linton Food Pantry through the funeral home. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.welchcornett.com.
