Mrs. Karen E. Sanders, a beacon of faith and creativity, departed from this world on September 29, 2025, in the peaceful surroundings of her home in
Robinson, Illinois, with her adoring family by her side. Born on January 21, 1940, in San Francisco, California, to Clarence Maurice Andersen and Elizabeth "Betty" (Leitner) Andersen, Karen's life was a testament to her intelligence, creativity, and unwavering faith in God.
Karen's journey through life was marked by her devotion to her family, her passion for her work, and her commitment to her community. She shared a loving marriage with Mr. Ellis M. Sanders, and together they nurtured a family that included sons Danny Warren, Scott Warren, stepson Rodger Strand, daughters Wendy & Dave Pryor, Julia & Scott Abrams, and stepdaughter Jennifer Strand. Karen was preceded in death by her father Clarence, mother Elizabeth, and brother Norbert C. "Norm" Andersen. Along with the rather large family, came eleven grandchildren, Sharon Stone, Christopher Warren, Matthew Warren, Jesse Warren, Jeromy Warren, Taylor Brule, Timothy Warren, Ariel Owens, Levi Brule, Travis Warren and Deja Brule.
Professionally, Karen was a tower of strength and ingenuity. Her career began in the fields of creative writing and art management for several large companies. Her talents were recognized at Prestolite Batteries in Toledo, Ohio, and subsequently at Dana Corporation, where she excelled in managing heavy truck marketing and promotion. Her role at Dana led her to Moore, Oklahoma, and eventually to Robinson, where she managed the Victor Dana (Reinz) Plant. Upon her departure from Dana Karen went to work for the L. S. Heath Candy Company for about two years until the plant sold. Karen then decided to pursue her lifelong dream of entrepreneurship by owning and operating "Your Flower Basket and Gifts" in Robinson for twenty-nine fruitful years.
Her work was not confined to the professional realm; Karen's Catholic faith was the cornerstone of her life. She lived by the well-known words of Scripture, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). This verse was not only a source of personal comfort but also a guiding principle that she applied in every aspect of her life, from her family to her business.
Karen's interests and involvements were as varied as they were impactful. She was an active member of Toastmaster's International, served with distinction as the President of the Robinson Rotary Club, and was a dedicated member of the Illinois State Floral Association. Her leadership in these organizations reflected her belief in service and her desire to contribute positively to the lives of those around her.
Those who knew Karen would describe her as faith-filled, creative, and intelligent. Her presence was a light that inspired others to seek the best within themselves. She approached every challenge with grace and every success with humility. Her life was a beautiful example of the Christian virtues she held dear, and her legacy will continue to be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
As we say goodbye to Mrs. Karen E. Sanders, we celebrate a life richly lived and deeply loved. Her spirit will forever dwell in the hearts of her beloved husband, children, and all who were touched by her extraordinary life. Karen's story does not end with her passing, for her influence will continue to bloom in the lives she shaped and the community she so passionately served.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday October 3, 2025, at 10:00 am at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. David Beagles celebrating the Mass. Interment of Cremated remains will take place at a later date in the Robinson New Cemetery.
