Lester Schenck Obituary

Lester Oliver Schenck, 91, of Spencer, Indiana , passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born July 18, 1934 in Waynetown, Indiana on the family farm. Lester is survived by three children, 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is survived by sons, David (Carrie) Schenck, Brad (Katie) Schenck, daughter Leslie (Landon) Vaughn. His grandchildren, Ryan Schenck, Alyssa Schenck, Emily (Joe) Pavich, Elizabeth (Donovan) Jones, Jessica (Sam) Allen, Tyler (Kyle) Harjes, Olivia Vaughn, Everly Vaughn, and Atlas Vaughn. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Michael (Brenda) Oliver Schenck and his parents Kenneth and Ethel (Switzer) Schenck, sister, Joyce Schultz and brother-in-law, Ronald Schultz. He married in 1958 to Judy Helms who he met at Purdue University. Later in life, he spent over twenty years with his companion, Joan Rooksberry. Lester was a graduate of Purdue University and the University of Iowa Physical Therapy Program. Lester was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity at Purdue University. Lester was employed as a physical therapist for 60 years in Madison, Owen, Greene, Morgan, Vigo, Clay and Putnam Counties in Indiana. Lester served as a member of the Merchant Marines in Baltimore, Maryland where he treated wounded service members for two years. Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at the West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home, 105 North Montgomery Street, Spencer, Indiana 47460. Pastor Steve Tyra will officiate. Burial will be at 2:00 PM, on Thursday, at the Masonic Cemetery in Waynetown, Indiana. Visitation will be 11:00 AM until the time of service, at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.westparrishpedigo.com. He was a past treasurer of the Indiana Physical Therapy Association. He was a member of the National Angus, Simmental, Maine Anjou and the Indiana Cattleman's Association. He was baptized in Waynetown, Indiana. He was a member of the Spencer Christian Church and transferred his membership to Heritage Baptist, Clay City, Indiana. In his lengthy career he was the head of therapy at Winona Hospital, Indianapolis and Community Hospital, Anderson. He supervised care at multiple nursing homes in Wabash Valley including Turtle Creek, Wallace, Southwood, Wabash Valley Home Health and Countryside. He also supervised care at Lyons Nursing Home in Sullivan and Shakamak. He was the head therapist at Country Heart Nursing Home in Bicknell and Indiana Home Health Care near Bloomington.
