After she graduated from Linton-Stockton High School in 1943, she attended cosmetology school in Terre Haute, Indiana. She became a cosmetologist and the owner/operator of Thyra Faye's Beauty Shop in Linton where she worked until starting her family. She married her husband Omer Simpson, Jr. after he received his discharge from the U.S. Army on August 7, 1954, serving for 3 years. They enjoyed life together while living in Linton and raising their three children. They were married 23 years before Omer's passing in 1978. Thyra, while in Linton, was an active member in the First Baptist Church and dedicated many years to singing in the choir. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed a competitive game of bingo.
In 1985, Thyra moved to Nokomis, Florida where she enjoyed a full life in the Sunshine State. Her love of playing bridge followed her to Florida where she became an active member of the bridge playing community. She was fondly referred to as a member of the Bridge and Bingo Babes.
Thyra was affectionately known for her dry wit alongside a sharp and eidetic memory. She lived life taking one day at a time and shaped her life on her own terms. Her 99 years of life was centered in the love of her family and her unwavering faith in God. She remained in Nokomis Florida until 2022 when she moved to Sonata Assisted Living in Lake Mary, Florida to live close to her daughter, Pam.
