Barbara Ann Howell Bailey, lovingly known by many as Barbie, 85, of Gordo, Alabama, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 17, 2025, at DCH Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday, October 20, 2025 at Cornerstone Methodist Church in Gordo with Bro. Marvin McCormick officiating. Burial will be in Gordo City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Born in Gordo, Alabama, on October 22, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Garnett and Bertha McAteer Howell.
Barbara was married to the love of her life, Sammy Bailey, for 62 wonderful years.
She was the devoted mother of Donna Sanders (Sammy) and Kim Dyer (Mitch); beloved grandmother of Jacob Sanders (Emmie), Kelsey Dyer Langdon (Thomas), and Morgan Sanders Dover (Steven); and adoring great-grandmother of Bailey and Anabeth Langdon.
She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Barbara was a lifelong faithful member of Cornerstone Methodist Church. She retired as a secretary from Bryce Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where her service and compassion extended to both staff and patients.
Barbara's family was her greatest joy. She loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always offering warmth, encouragement, and love. She followed the example of her Lord and Savior, always serving and putting the needs of others first. She will be remembered as a lady of grace, elegance and class. Everyone who knew her was blessed by her loving spirit and radiant smile.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Garnett and Bertha Howell; brothers Jack Howell and wife Octavia, infant Frank Howell, Ralph Howell and wife Mary, sisters Mildred Faber and husband Don, and Ruth Glass and husband Bill.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Sanders, Thomas Langdon, Steven Dover, Billy Glass, David Howell, Greg Howell, Richard Howell, and Byron Howell.
Some of Barbie's last words to her family were: "How could I have wanted anything more, because the Lord blessed me so much with my family and friends." Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
