Billy Dean McGhee, 86, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at his home. He was born on October 25, 1938, in Wren to Evans and Nora Elaine Brewer McGhee. Billy was a dairy farmer all his life and he worked many years at Comer Packing. He was an avid horseman and worked as a farrier for the public. He was married to the former Barbara Thompson and his hobbies included horseback riding and coon, rabbit, and deer hunting. He was a faithful member of Tranquil United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Tranquil Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Ray Rooney officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is entrusted with the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara McGhee of Aberdeen; two sons, Billy D. McGhee, Jr., Aberdeen and Jimmy Ray McGhee (Amy), Winfield, AL; his daughter, Cynthia Elaine Christopher (Keith), Cleveland, MS; two sisters, Carolyn Fowlkes (Wayne), Amory and Deborah Ridings (Eddie), Aberdeen; sister-in-law, Barbara McGhee, Aberdeen; brother-in-law, Billy Thompson (Cathy), Aberdeen; grandchildren, Nikki Escobar (Anthony), Emma McGhee, Savannah McGhee, Meagan Harris (Alex), and Kyle Christopher (Nikki); great grandchildren, Riley Escobar, Liam Sanchez, Haygen Dutton, River Ray McGhee, Eliza Harris, Royce Harris and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ray Evans McGhee; sister-in-law, Martha Kyle; and stepson, Jamie Halfacre.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Christopher, Anthony Escobar, Brent Thompson, Lonnie Williams, Brad Ridings, and William Ridings. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Brewer and Billy Thompson.
Visitation will be on Saturday from noon until the service hour at the church.
