David Pearson Obituary

Old Union Community-David Leon Pearson, 61, departed this life from Sanctuary Hospice House on Friday, Feb. 27, 2026 after a period of declining health. David was born in Amory, as one of 6 boys and 6 girls born to the late Henry Sylvester Pearson and Nannie Lou Sullivan White. He graduated from Nettleton High School and worked many years for Hickory Springs Manufacturing in Shannon where he was an assemblyman. He lived his whole life after birth in Lee County and married the late Gay Coker, who died Aug 21, 2015. To this union was born one son, Cody Pearson who died Dec. 7, 2019. David always had a love for his nieces and nephews and they loved Uncle David back. David was a quiet man who had many talents with his hands-he enjoyed being a free hand artist/painter, was a crafter and woodworker making all kinds of dollhouses and other fun things for his devoted nieces and nephews and their families. A nature enthusiast, he loved fishing in area streams, lakes and creeks but really enjoyed his outings at Grenada Lake. He loved Alabama sports esp. football and watching wrestling on TV, but most of all he enjoyed spending his free time with his family. His gentle spirit endeared him to family and many friends. A service celebrating his life will be held at 3 PM Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with remarks by Rev. Kenny McGill and Steve Holland. Visitation will be from 4 PM-7PM today and from 1 PM-service time Tuesday all at Holland-Tupelo Chapel which is honored to be serving their friends. Private burial will follow at Doty Chapel Cemetery east of Shannon. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed at hollandfuneraldirectors.com/Live-streaming at 3 pm and will be archived thereafter. David is survived by his brother, Jimmy Pearson and his wife Sharon of Verona, who he considered a sister and was very special to him; his sisters, Susan P. Page of Dumas, Wanda Pearson of Verona and Debra Pearson (Nicki) of Saltillo; his son, Matthew Pearson of Erie Pennsylvania; 4 special nieces and nephews, Jeff Pearson (Amber), Ashley Dabbs (Tony), Amber Whitlow (Joseph) and Zach Pearson (Megan); 20 great nieces and nephews and 1 great great niece, all of which he considered his grandkids that he never got to have. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Sylvester Pearson and Nannie Lou Sullivan White; a son, Cody Pearson who died Dec. 7, 2019, and several siblings and other family members. Pallbearers will be Jeff Pearson, Zack Pearson, Dakota Dabbs, Hunter Dabbs, Anthony Pearson and Joseph Whitlow. Memorials may be made to Sanctuary Hospice House, P. O. Box 2177, Tupelo, MS. 38802. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed at hollandfuneraldirectors.com/Live-streaming.
