Earnest Haney Obituary

Earnest Burdette "Burt" Haney (80) of Pontotoc, MS, passed away Friday, October 17, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Burt was born on July 30, 1945, in Pontotoc, MS, to Ann Ray Haney and William Boyd Haney. He attended Pontotoc High School and the University of Mississippi. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he attended business school. He worked for Haney Chevrolet in Pontotoc until it closed and then for the State of Mississippi, retiring from the Investigative Division of the State Auditor's Office. He loved spending time with family and traveling with his wife. He was a Methodist, Eagle Scout and involved in multiple historical organizations. He is survived by his sons, Ray Haney (Kerri) and Boyd Haney (Missy) both of Pontotoc; four grandchildren, Joseph, Clarissa, Kelsey and Emma. He was preceded in death by his wife (Patricia Smith Haney), his parents (W.B. and Ann Haney) and his brother (Billy Haney). Following his wishes, there will be no service nor memorial. In lieu of flowers, donations to your favorite charity will be appreciated.
