Mary Thorn "Jenell" Overton

Mary "Jenell" Thorn Overton, 96, of Cherokee, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. Visitation will be Sunday, August 31, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Morrison's Funeral Home, Cherokee, AL. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 1, at the Maud Church of Christ, Cherokee, AL. Interment will follow at the Mynot Cemetery.
Jenell was an independent, hard-working woman with a sassy quick wit. She was a lifelong resident of the Maud/Mynot community, a diligent bible student and a faithful member of the Maud Church of Christ. She loved cooking, canning, baking, gardening, yard work, games, daily walks with her best friend Judy, outings with her Red Hat group, and especially the "Monday Bunch" ramblings. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
Jenell was preceded in death by her husband, Thelton "Salty" Overton; father, Owen Thorn; mother, Cora Waddle Thorn; and sister, Dorothy Thorn Blackburn.
She is survived by her son, Harold Overton and wife Sue; granddaughters, Gina Miller and husband Keary; Jenifer Buller and husband Kurt; great-grandchildren, Ian Miller, Drew Buller, Kearsten Miller, and Brock Buller; and niece Sandra Johnson and husband Sammy.
Pallbearers will be the grandchildren assisted by Jacob Sparks and Casey Durham.
In lieu of flowers, make memorial contributions to the Pinevale Christian Children's Home, Corinth, MS, or to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff of Barton House Memory Care Assisted Living facility whose love and compassionate care made Jenell's last couple of years a blessing.
