Mattie Lou was born to Clarence and Robbie Birmingham on April 29,1937. She lived a life defined by faith, family, love, and service to others. Her greatest treasures were her beloved husband, Jerry, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was a mother who gave of herself freely and a grandmother whose love created memories that will be treasured for generations.
Mattie Lou’s faith was the foundation of who she was, and she faithfully served the Lord her entire life. She gave selflessly to her local church for many years. Her work in the church included serving as the church treasurer, nursery worker, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and any other role that was needed to be filled.
Her legacy will live on through the children she raised, the grandchildren she adored, the people she helped, the lives she touched, and the faith she passed down to those who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Eastman; her children, Debra McCaskill (Jim) and Lynn Crosby (Denise); her grandchildren, Christa Nicholson, Aaron Dees (Laura), Leah Greene (Joey), Andrea Mask (Austin); her great-grandchildren, Eli Nicholson (Aidan), Caroline Smith (Wynn), Lily Nicholson, Mary Morgan Pierce; Great-great grandchildren, Ella Wrenn Smith and Blakelee Katherine Nicholson; her brother, Bobby Birmingham; numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by additional beloved children, Todd Eastman (Teresa), Shanda Eastman; additional beloved grandchildren, Jagger Eastman (Anna), Savannah Eastman, Brennan Eastman, Carsyn Whitley, Carrington Fosse, and Canyon Whitley; additional beloved great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Eastman, Henley Eastman, and McCoy Eastman, along with countless friends and loved ones.
She is preceded in death by her late husband, Charles Crosby, her great-granddaughter, Ella Cate Dees, along with her parents, Clarence Birmingham and Robbie Lee Birmingham Thompson (Jessie), and other beloved family members.
Mattie Lou was a force. She was smart and beautiful, but most of all, she loved others. She routinely blessed her family and friends by cooking her signature dishes such as fried chicken, tea cakes, chocolate syrup and gravy and biscuits. She will be missed, but continually celebrated by the ones who had the privilege to be loved by her.
