Nancy Katherine Waldrup

BELDEN - Mrs. Nancy Russell Waldrup died Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the North MS Medical Center Hospice Unit in Tupelo. She was 73 years old. Nancy was born in Fort Jackson, Columbia, SC, on February 15, 1951, to Clyde Nicklos and Agnes Katherine Lehman Russell. She grew up in Greenville, MS, and attended Greenville public schools, graduating from Greenville High School in 1969. She was a member of the Laureate staff, Dramatics Club, Teen Club steering committee and a delegate to the Southern Association of Student Councils convention. In junior college, she was a runner-up in the Junior Miss Pageant and played a leading role in the Thespians Drama Club. She obtained her bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1972 and worked as a legal secretary and worker's compensation insurance adjuster. She married her husband, Lee Waldrup, Jr., on May 17, 1986, a union of 38 years. She was the author of a children's book called "Halle Goodlove's Journey." Nancy loved the outdoors, swimming, walking, and bicycle riding. She also enjoyed reading, writing poetry, and studying her Bible. She had several favorite passages, including II Chron. 20:17, Ps. 17:15, Ps. 18:2 and 17, Ps. 20:8, Ps. 27: 9 and 14, Ps. 121:1-2 and 8, and John 12:40-44.
A celebration of life service for Nancy will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at First Baptist Church in Tupelo, with Bro. Matt Powell officiating. Visitation will be from 1 PM to service time in The Commons at the church. Private burial will take place at Salter Cemetery in western Jefferson County Alabama. She is survived by her husband, Lee Waldrup, Jr. of Belden; brother James Russell (Christine) of Fort Worth, TX, and sister-in-law Theda Russell of Oxford, MS; nephews Chris Russell (Lauren) and Zach Russell; one uncle Tony Lehman and cousins Roy Blackwell, Benny Blackwell and Diane Caron. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Katherine Russell; and her brother, Nick Russell.
