William Roney Autry, age 83, a cherished husband, father, brother, and patriot, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, at his home in Hickory Flat, MS. Born on February 18, 1942, in New Albany, MS, Rusty had a Christian faith, unwavering love for his country, and profound dedication to his family. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Benton County. Rusty was the son of the late Arthur A. Autry and Elizabeth Briggs Autry. His journey through life was one of commitment and joy. He shared a blissful marriage with his wife, Sharon McCullough Autry, who remains a testament to their enduring love. Together, they created a legacy through his daughters, Carrie Thrasher, Ronda DeCanter, and Ebby Tarlton, and one bonus daughter, Rita Ann Church. His sister, Cindy Hearn, and brother, Bill Autry, also survive him. His son, William Roney Autry, Jr., preceded him in death. Roney's work ethic was admirable. He retired after many years of dedicated service as a truck driver, with his final years spent with Cooper Trucking. The open road was his companion, and the trucking community knew him as a reliable and skilled driver. His love for driving was only surpassed by his love for his country. A proud veteran, Roney served both in the Navy and the Army National Guard. His service was not merely a duty but a source of great pride. He often reminisced about his military time, and his stories were a testament to his interesting life and loving nature. His patriotism was unwavering, and his experiences shaped the man known and loved by many. Roney's interests were deeply rooted in the simple pleasures of life. He found joy in spending quality time with his wife and was known for his interesting tales and loving demeanor. His presence was a comfort, his laughter a melody, and his guidance a steady hand to those around him. In every aspect of his life, Roney was a man of faith, family, and country. His legacy is one of love and service, a narrative of a life well-lived. Those who knew him will remember a man who embodied the essence of being interesting and loving, whose life was a reflection of the values he held dear. Services to honor his life will be Monday, August 11, 2025, at 3:00 pm at United Funeral Service with Bro. Jerry Bingham officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm until service time.
