Samuel Cherry

Samuel Cherry, Jr. was born on December 14, 1958, in Tupelo, Ms to the late Willie B. and Ruby Lee Cherry. After an extended illness, he passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, at Tupelo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by loved ones. He was a stable in the Palmetto Community, where he touched many hearts with his laughter and generous spirit. He professed a hope in Christ at an early age, joining Blackland MB Church. He was a man who valued faith, family, and friendship above all else. He found great joy in simple moments- whether it was playing cards with his buddies, sharing stories like only he could, or spending quality time surrounded by family and friends. His warm smile and easy going nature made everyone feel welcome in his presence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie B. and Ruby Lee Cherry; sister, Pearlean Betts; brothers, Donnell Porter, John Wilson, and James Rogers; granddaughter, Demi Rose Watkins; and grandson, Devin Hodges. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Elaine Cherry and his sister, Dorothy Bumphis. Sam's legacy continues through his children: Margaret Montgomery, Creg Watkins, Greg Watkins, Koteasha Hodges, Kenosha Hodges, Quanesia Young, Rashad Walton, Erica Cherry, Adrial Cherry, Justin Cherry, Amber Cherry, and Charity Cherry. Along with his children, he will be greatly missed by his twenty-three grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews . Sam's life was one of love, laughter, and loyalty. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
