Trent Summers

BELDEN – Trenton Earl "Trent" Summers, 89, after a life filled with faith, family, hard work and abiding love and devotion to Mississippi State Sports, departed this earthly pilgrimage for his eternal home on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, from NMMC after a period of declining health. Trent was born in Mantachie on July 2, 1935, to the late Walter Summers and Ivy Lou Murphy Summers. He graduated from Mantachie High School in 1955. A patriotic American, Trent served his country in the Miss. Army National Guard for several years. He married the love of his life, Martha Stokes, on June 7, 1959, a marriage of 62 years until her death on June 12, 2022. The Summers made their home in Belden the rest of their lives. Trent was a man of strength and substance honoring hard work and solid values. He worked at Penn Tire in Tupelo until it closed, moving to Gibson Containers where he served several decades and ultimately, retired from Securitas Security Co. well into his 80s. He loved his land and gardening, riding and bush-hogging on his John Deere tractor, attending Belden Baptist Church, loving his grandchildren who knew him as PaPaw, and spending every second he could with his beloved dog, Harley. He and his late sister, Annie Lou Summers Roebuck, missed very few Mississippi State baseball, basketball or football games in over 50 years. Visitation will be held at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo from 5 PM-7 PM on Thursday afternoon, April 10, 2025. A graveside burial service will be held at 10 AM Friday, April 11, 2025 at Old Union Cemetery northeast of Belden. Bro. Danny Wilburn will officiate. Survivors include his two daughters, Lisa Summers Gilland and husband Lem of Belden, and Jennifer Summers Kyle and husband Tim of Blue Springs; grandson Chris Gilland (Jenny) of the Unity Community; and two great-grandchildren, Skylar and Kayleb Gilland. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ivy Summers; his wife, Martha; siblings Harvey Lee, W.T. Summers, and Annie Lou Summers, and grandson Justin Gilland.
