Darlene Mae Hill

DARLENE MAE HILL, 93, of Rock Creek, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on May 3, 1932, in Bim, West Virginia, to Boyd and Ethel Jarrell.
In addition to her parents, Darlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband and love of her life, Arrowood Hill; her son, Raymond Earl Hill; and her step granddaughter, Kelly Canterbury Golden.
She is survived by her son Kevin Hill and his wife Kathy of Alum Creek, WV; grandsons Dee Canterbury (Kelli) of Madison and Adam Canterbury (Heather) of Barboursville; and great-granddaughters Lily and Chloe Canterbury.
Darlene devoted her life to caring for her family. She took immense pride in her sons and their accomplishments, always offering unwavering support and love as they pursued their goals. Her affection extended naturally to Kathy, whom she cherished as the daughter she never had, and to Dee and Adam, who quickly became the grandchildren she adored.
A graduate of Van High School, Darlene remained a loyal Bulldog fan throughout her life. She and Arrowood raised their family in Bim, where she was an active and cherished member of the community. For many years, she served on committees for the Van High School and Coal Camp Reunions events she loved dearly. Only her declining health kept her from attending in recent years, though her fondness for reconnecting and reminiscing never waned.
A celebration of Darlene's life will begin with visitation at Handley Funeral Home in Danville on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 1 p.m. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 2 p.m., with interment at Memory Gardens in Danville, WV.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Wes Lafferty for his many house calls and exceptional care, and to the compassionate staff of Hillcrest Healthcare Center in Danville for their kindness and support during the final years of Darlene's life.
