Mrs. Nester was a grade schoolteacher, who retired in 1985, after 30 years of teaching in Roane County schools. She began her career at the Wallback Grade School before moving to the one room Uler Grade School. When that school closed, she moved to Newton Grade School until it was consolidated forming a part of the Geary Elementary School, Left Hand. Many young boys and girls from those schools benefited from her teaching. She earned her degree in Education from Morris Harvey College, Charleston, W.Va.
She was a Christian and a faithful member of the Newton United Methodist Church, Newton. Her pastimes included quilting, gardening and mowing her yard. Nearly all her descendants have a quilt which was handmade by her. In her later years her pastime became time spent solving word search puzzles. One of her greatest joys was hosting Christmas Eve dinners for her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and their spouses.
"Rest in God's peace, you deserve it."
