Jerry Dale Jones

JERRY DALE JONES, born September 11, 1944 in Charleston, West Virginia, and passed on February 23, 2025. He was a 1962 graduate of St. Albans High School, and the son of the late Clifford, and Marie Donahue Jones, formally of Soldier, Kentucky.
He was married to the late Sheila Ann Jones. Jerry was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a longtime member of Saint John's Episcopal Church, Charleston, WV. He took his Doctorate from VPI in Blacksburg, VA, and taught at a number of higher education institutions, including most recently as Distinguished Tenured Professor at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Jerry was elected superintendent in both Roane and Morgan counties in West Virginia, and most recently was under contract with Kanawha County Schools.
He was inducted into the Sons of the American Revolution: Lafayette Chapter, in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
He leaves behind two daughters, Katie Marie Osborne (Josh Osborne) of Fraziers Bottom, WV and Sara Beth Schoolcraft (Travis Chapman) of Ravenswood, WV. He has six grandchildren: Blake, Annabella, Olivia, Vincent, Daniel, Karly. Jerry has four siblings: Brother, Mickey Jones, St. Albans, Sisters, Pat Burchett, South Charleston, WV Diania Elmore, Pinch, WV and brother, the late Steven Howard Jones of Dunbar, WV. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, West Virginia is in charge of arrangements and he will be interned at The Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Institute, West Virginia with Full Military Honors Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 11 a.m.
