Joan Tinker Obituary

Joan Tinker Hill, age 83, of Southport, North Carolina passed away on Friday, August 1, 2025. Ms. Hill was born September 29, 1941 in South Charleston, West Virginia, daughter of the late Joe Tinker Wood and Ruth Eggleston Wood. She was a graduate of South Charleston High School and Morris Harvey College. Joan was retired Information Specialist for Union Carbide / Dow Chemical. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge and Bunco. Joan moved to Southport, North Carolina in 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Susan T. Covington and husband John; a granddaughter, Rose B. Covington; a sister-in-law, Diane Ball Wood; a nephew, Fahs E. Wood, Jr.; and a niece, Jennifer Wood Sullivan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Fahs E. Wood; and her long-time companion, Richard G. Carter.

Following services that were held in North Carolina, a service to Honor the Life of Joan will be held at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at 12:00 Noon with visitation from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon at the funeral home. A private burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, 955 Mercy Lane, Bolivia, NC 28422 or to the hospice agency of your choice.
