Pastor Joe Allen Whorley

1954 - 2024

(known as Bob Joe), 70, of Simmons Creek, Belle, peacefully answered the call of his Lord and Savior, surrounded by his beloved wife, sons, and a circle of dear friends on Saturday, December 28, 2024.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Robert and Flora Atkins Whorley and sister, Alma Lee Hobbs.

Joe leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 48 years, Shelia; sons, Christopher of Roanoke, Virginia and Gary (Krista) of Belle; grandchildren, Alexus (Will) Weese, Joe Whorley of Campbells Creek, Dawson Whorley of Charleston and Devon Whorley of Roanoke, Virginia; great-grandchildren, Grace Adkins, Coen Weese, and Kendalyn Weese of Mammoth; brothers, Danny Atkins and James (Jimmy) Atkins of Belle; nephew, Mason (Franklin) Casto, whom he loved to argue with daily; and his special fur buddies, Ringo ("love dog") and Chewy, along with a host of extended family and friends.

Joe was the dedicated pastor of The Father's House of Simmons Creek, a congregation he held close to his heart. He was especially proud of overseeing the food pantry, which he and the Lord opened, providing food for many families over the past four years.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Diane Petit and Harry Pennington for their unwavering support, care, and friendship to both Joe and Shelia over the past eight years, as well as to the medical staff at CAMC Memorial for their loving care during his time there.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 3, 2025 at the Father's House of Simmons Creek, Belle, with Pastor Joey Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in Simmons Creek Community Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church on Friday.
