Mary Elizabeth "Sis" Corbin

MARY ELIZABETH "SIS" BASS JOHNSON CORBIN was reunited with her family in her heavenly home on November 11, 2025. She was born in Dry Branch, West Virginia on March 4, 1919. Living an astounding 106 years, 8 months and 7 days, she is thought to be the oldest resident of West Virginia. She still resided in Cabin Creek in the house she was born in.
Sis was the matriarch of her family and historian of her community. She retired from CAMC Memorial Hospital where she was honored to present thousands of newborn babies to their mothers for the first time. She loved animals, visits from family and friends and proudly professed her Christian faith.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Berry Corbin, her parents George and Ellen Bass, her son Glenn Johnson, sister Isabel O'Neal, brothers Bill, Frank, June, Lawrence and Sam Bass and daughter-in-law Pansie Johnson.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons George Johnson (Norma Keeney), Gary Johnson (Sue Linville), and Richard Johnson (Emily Greathouse) and special niece Thelma O'Brien, all of Cabin Creek. Grandchildren Amy "Susan" Johnson Veazey (Chris), Mary Beth Jenkins (Frank), Richard Johnson II, Chad Johnson (Megan) and Emily Graley (Randy). Great-grandchildren Sophia and Juliana Veazey, Benjamin and Jonathan Jenkins and Kaylan and Shane Johnson, along with a host of nieces, nephews and honorary grandchildren who will miss her dearly.
Service will be held Sunday, November 16 at 2 p.m., at O'Dell Funeral Home in Montgomery with the Rev. Rick Holstein officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at London Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank the staff at Kanawha Hospice Care and Hubbard Hospice House for their loving compassion as she transitioned from this life to the next.
