Patricia Marshall Obituary

PATRICIA (PATTY) ANN MARSHALL, 75, of Charleston and formerly of Grafton, WV, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at her residence in Charleston of Alzheimer's disease while under the care of Hospice and with her loving family who cared for her throughout her illness by her side.
She was born in Morgantown, WV, on May 11, 1947, a daughter of the late John (Jack) Vincent Rehe and Rilla Jane Turner Rehe.
Patty was baptized into the Catholic faith September 26, 1948, at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Bretz, WV. She attended the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Grafton, WV.
Patty is survived by her husband of 51 years, David (Dave) Lee Marshall, whom she married April 17, 1971.
Patty and Dave met and started their courtship in the art studio at Martin Hall at West Virginia University while dropping off art projects. Patty is also survived by two sons - Lance Marshall (Jessica) and Jonathan Marshall (Adriana); four grandsons, Alex, Christian, Vincent, and Adrian; three brothers, John V. Rehe Jr. (Judy), Gary Rehe, Tim Rehe (Suzetta); and several nieces and nephews.
Patty was a graduate of Valley High School in Masontown, West Virginia, Class of 1965. She was a member of the Valley High School Marching Band and played the clarinet. She attended Potomac State College and majored in Elementary Education. She then attended West Virginia University and graduated December of 1970. Patty moved to Grafton, WV in 1971 where she was employed by the Taylor County Board of Education. Teaching her students was her passion, and she became a lifelong educator. She taught Second Grade from 1971 to 1972. In 1972, upon the opening of Anna Jarvis Elementary School, she taught Third Grade until she transferred into Title I as a reading teacher. During this time, she earned her Master's Degree + 45 hours in curriculum and instruction. The Taylor County Board of Education, in official session on February 12, 2008, approved her retirement as a Title I teacher at Anna Jarvis Elementary School, effective June 30, 2008. Later, Patty served as a Title I substitute teacher for many years. She was known as an excellent reading teacher and instilled a love of reading for not only her own children and grandchildren, but the many students that passed through her classroom.
Patty's family was the center of her life, and she was the heart of the family. She was a wonderful wife, a caring and loving daughter, mother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law, and grandmother. Patty loved creating memorable experiences for those around her. Christmas, birthdays, and holidays were always festive events to be anticipated and relished. She had a lifelong passion for the water and enjoyed many days and evenings with her family and friends on Tygart Lake and spent virtually every summer vacationing at the beach. She was a loving and devoted grandmother and took great pride in watching her grandchildren pursue the activities that brought them joy. Patty also expressed her love of her family through cooking and baking. This care of others extended not only to her immediate family, but also to others. She was proud of the decades that she served as a volunteer to the Bread of Life Mission, which fed those in need. She enjoyed volunteering with members of the Church of the Good Shepherd - particularly Jimmy Waters and Kim Wood.
The beautiful memories of her life will endure forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in honor of Patty's memory be made to the St. Augustine Church in Grafton, West Virginia. Special thanks to the Visiting Angels of Charleston, West Virginia and particularly Tiffany Moon her caregiver.
Family and Friends will be received at Bartlett's Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, West Virginia on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 from 3 - 7 p.m., with a prayer service at the conclusion of the visitation.
