Roberta Stuck Obituary

Roberta Jane Workman Stuck, 92, of Charleston, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, at Hubbard Hospice House following a brief illness.

Born on July 12, 1933, in Boone County, West Virginia, Roberta was the daughter of the late Earl Henry Workman, Sr. and Berenice Miller Workman. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gene Stuck; her parents; her brothers, Earl Henry Workman, Jr. or Abingdon, VA, William E. "Bill" Workman of Ravenswood, and Robert "Bob" L. Workman of Cross Lanes; and her sisters, Beth "Betty Jo" Beulike of Naples, FL and Judith Hope Miller of Punaluu, HI.

Roberta's life was rooted in compassion, service, and quiet strength. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Pamela Stuck Lopez, and her granddaughter and namesake, Devon Jane Lopez, who she helped raise and with whom she shared an unbreakable bond. More than a Nana, Roberta was Devon's constant, her "Birdie," and her best friend, a love and connection that shaped Devon's life and will remain with her always. Roberta is also survived by cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.

A proud graduate of Scott High School, Class of 1950, Roberta was a cheerleader for the Skyhawks, a member of the student council, and a Golden Horseshoe recipient; early reflections of her leadership, dedication, and commitment to community.

After marrying Gene, Roberta built a life centered on caring for others. She moved to Charleston, earned her Registered Nursing degree from Kanawha Valley Hospital, and began her nursing career at the Union Carbide Technical Center. She later chose to devote herself fully to raising her daughter, serving as a homeroom mother and Girl Scout leader, roles she embraced with warmth, patience, and pride.

Roberta eventually returned to the workforce as a Kanawha County school nurse and retired in 1994 as Director of Health Services for Kanawha County Schools. During her career, she also earned a Master of Science degree in Counseling and Guidance from West Virginia College of Graduate Studies.

Throughout her life, Roberta found joy in many interests and pursuits. She was a loyal Mountaineer fan, devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. She was also a long-standing member and member emeritus of the Pilot Club of Charleston, reflecting her lifelong commitment to service and community. Roberta enjoyed playing golf and bridge, traveling the world through the Friendship Force, and spending time with friends and family.

Following her retirement, Roberta and Gene treasured time spent together at their second home in Daytona Beach Shores, where they created lasting memories by the ocean they both loved.

In a final act of generosity, and in keeping with a decision she shared with her husband, Roberta donated her body to West Virginia University, allowing her legacy of care and service to continue through education and healing.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 2626 Pennsylvania Ave., Charleston, WV 25302. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial at 12:00 p.m.

I loved Roberta! I am so thankful that my husband and I had dinner out with her (pretty recently) and visited her at Pam´s home in her beautiful "apartment."

Roberta was a classy woman. She was very intelligent. Always looked her best. Very friendly. Beautiful inside and out.

I´m very blessed to have grown up with Pam and to know her precious Mother.

Much love to Pam, Devon and Family!

This amazing lady will forever be Mrs. Stuck to me. She was my Girl Scout leader and mom of a forever friend that played with us, laughed and giggled all the while teaching us life lessons. Mrs. Stuck touched so many lives in many ways. She leaves such a wonderful legacy and amazing memories that many will hold in their hearts forever.
