Samuel Rutledge Obituary

SAMUEL "OTEY" RUTLEDGE went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at around 11:30 a.m.
He was born to Samuel and Connie Rutledge on June 30, 1971. Otey was raised in South Charleston, West Virginia with his brother, Richard (Richie) where he spent nearly his entire life.
He had two children with Stacy Board of South Charleston, Samuel (Beau) Rutledge (28) Savannah Rutledge (25) And his bonus daughter Ciera Board (30) . He was a grand father to three of Beaus children (Brooklyn, Job and Amos). He was preceded in death by both of his parents Connie and Samuel Rutledge, and many friends whom he loved dearly.
In death, he leaves behind many who loved him and tried to help him the best they could.
Of those, most notably in his final stretch of life, was Sadie Young. She helped our father out so much and was a true friend to him, and we will be forever grateful for her love and compassion towards our father.
Otey will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him.

I grew up with otey knee him my whole life he would come to my house for a cold drink or something to eat often i would see him outside the bakery or go mart or dollar store and if make sure he has a drink and a few dollars in his pocket, always promising to pay me back one day and we would speak about the old days and Scott and Harold Monica and John simple times happier times than the now was for him. He always had something kind to say no matter how bad his day was going and he will be missed by many but no longer misunderstood...mental health is real

What do I say to sum up 54 years of friendship ? I´ll say PTP for life ! If you know the PTP I´ve already said enough . If not I´ll share this . We were a poverty stricken group of kids , growing up on the wrong side of the tracks , a band of families that stood together through it all . We were sometimes referred to as troubled kids and and often over achieved our meek beginnings and expectations. Some of us made it out and some of us stayed . We are now parents and grandparents and get when anyone of us see each other it´s the kid in us that immediately come out ! You Otey were always that kid ! We faught together , we prayed together , we were mischievous but we we also emphatic and compassionate, we were and always will be PTP ... you were my friend , never could I question if I had true friends ... thank you for a lifetime of memories. God bless your family and I pray that you once again found peace and comfort in heaven! Rest easy my brother until we meet again ! Love you Samuel Otis Rutledge

I knew Odie as a child and loved him as I was crossing guard at his elementary school. I later knew him as a man, and I loved him then too. I´m glad he´s not suffering and he will never be cold or too hot again thank you Jesus. I´ll miss seeing you so fly high my dear friend!!
