TAMELA "TAMI" R. LEASEBURG, 67, of Charleston WV, passed away November 8, 2025 at Helia Healthcare in Energy, IL.
The daughter of John "Jack" and Lillian Leaseburg, Tami grew up in Charleston, graduated from George Washington High School, then attended Marshall University. Upon receiving her degree from Marshall University, Tami, following in her father's footsteps, began her career with C&P Telephone Co/Bell Atlantic/Verizon. She loved working at the same location as her father. As her career advanced into management, Tami made so many friends along the way. They were family. Tami was loved by everyone she worked with. Her compassion, beautiful smile and warmth were infectious.
After a lifelong career with the phone company, Tami retired to spend time with her dad. They hiked Kanawha State Forest taking their dogs, Rosie and Spot everywhere they went. Tami also watched out for all the neighborhood animals. The mailman, she supplied with treats for animals on his route. Her yard was a haven for the deer, birds, squirrels and raccoons. The raccoons returned with their new babies to her deck each year. The strays were cared for and the lost returned home.
Tami befriended many neighbors. She checked on them, cared for them, and loved them. Those neighbors have been there with love prayers and support as Tami has battled ALS. With cards, love and encouragement over and beyond. Tami came to be near family in Illinois, but she really missed her friends in Charleston.
The wonderful memories with Tami are many, and she will be very missed. Her laughter, her smile, her ability to let you know she cared is a loss we will feel.
Tami is survived by her sister, Michelle, brother-in-law, Ed and nephew Ryan Queen all of Marion Illinois. Her 'sister' by heart, Carol Taylor, who has been there for her every step of the way. Tami is also survived by her rescue dog, Lucy and her cat, Tiger.
Tami was preceded in death by her parents, John 'Jack' and Lillian Leaseburg, and her sister Kathy Leaseburg.
In accordance with her wishes, her ashes will be spread in a small service in the spring. In memory of Tami, take a walk, meet your neighbors, donate to the animal shelter, take care of animals that need help. Take care of each other.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL.
