Alpha Omega Lowe Mitchell, of Jewell Valley, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord, on Monday, February 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was a devoted child of God, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose life was defined by faith, service, and love for others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest "Traveler" Lowe and Ina Hayes Lowe; her beloved husband, Edd Mitchell; her precious granddaughter, Hannah Bryant; her sister, Anna Ruth Lowe; and her brother, Dan (Danny) Lowe.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Eddie and Tamy Mitchell, Susan and Barry Bryant, Kenny and Tonia Mitchell, and Barbara and Pete Lundy. She is also survived by her grandchildren: James Mitchell, Alexzandra (Hunter) Dowell, Ben Bryant, Morgan Mitchell, Justin Mitchell, Braydon Mitchell, and Elan Lundy.
She was blessed with granddaughters of the heart, Kaitlin Cole and Kristin Cole.
Her great-grandchildren include Jethro, Jedidiah, Gideon, Gunner, and Evelyn "Evee" along with a great-granddaughter of the heart, Elena.
She is also survived by her sisters: Martha Lowe; Margaret and Wayne Cochran; and Mollie and Joey Swicegood; along with many loving nieces, nephews, dear friends, and countless school children whose lives she touched through the years.
Alpha Omega wore many titles throughout her life-child of God, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, substitute teacher, bus driver, and friend-but her greatest joy was serving others with kindness, patience, and love.
She was a 1963 graduate of Richlands High School and married the love of her life on January 18, 1966. She was saved and baptized in July 1974 and remained faithful to the Lord throughout her life. She was a member of Whitewood House of Worship Church and Shelter Freewill Baptist Church.
Alpha Omega faithfully served the Buchanan County School System for 46 years. She began as a substitute teacher in the fall of 1979 and became an instructional aide in 2001. She also began driving a school bus in the fall of 1989 and continued until December 4, 2025. She loved her bus route and took special care of the children entrusted to her, treating each one as her own.
She enjoyed traveling to the Smoky Mountains and the beach, especially with her "Baby Rat," Elan. A devoted student of God's Word, she read her Bible completely through multiple times and made daily scripture reading a lifelong habit. Known as a Bible scholar within her church, she could quickly find an answer to any question and was always eager to share her knowledge and faith.
Her life was a testimony of quiet strength, unwavering faith, and a heart dedicated to serving both God and others. Her family finds comfort in knowing she has finished her race, kept the faith, and is now at home with her Lord and Savior.
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness."- 2 Timothy 4:7–8
