Darrell Long Obituary

Darrell Blaine Long, 78, of Princeton, WV, passed away Sunday morning, June 29, 2025, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born August 19, 1946, in Princeton, WV, he was the son of the late Wilson "Pete" Long and Nellie Lou Taylor Long. Darrell was an active member of Silver Springs Baptist Church in Princeton as his health permitted. He was just the kind of person that everyone loved. Everyone looked forward to seeing him in the yearly Christmas play using his dry sense of humor. He will be greatly missed. Darrell was a 1964 graduate of Princeton High School, was a member of the National Guard, and worked for 40 years for the Department of Highways in the Bridges Department. He loved family gatherings, the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as being outdoors camping or just mowing his lawn and feeding any cat, deer, or other stray animal that came his way. He was particularly fond of his pet cat, Homer. He and Barbara would often just go somewhere out of town to shop and eat. Usually, when you saw one, you saw the other. In addition to his parents, Darrell was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Hazel Meadows, and his brother-in-law, Bob Winfrey. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Meadows Long; son, Kevin Long and wife, Trish of Princeton, WV; granddaughters, Ali Copenhaver, husband Logan, and their son Oliver of Shady Spring, WV, and Sami Long of Princeton, WV; sisters, Pam Winfrey of Princeton, WV, Peggy Way and husband Mike of Surfside Beach, SC, and Penny Mills and husband John of Narrows, VA; brother, Larry Long and wife Dreama of Princeton, WV. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews and cousins that thought the world of him. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Reverand Gerald McKinney officiating and his brother-in-law, John Mills speaking. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to the service hour Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Went to school with Darrell and he was definitely one the very nicest people I've ever known. So sorry to hear of his passing. I'd often see him and his wife in Kroger and we always stopped to talk and catch up.
