Nannie Martin Obituary

Nannie Lou Martin, of Pembroke, VA a beloved matriarch whose warmth and dedication to her family knew no bounds, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, in Pearisburg, Virginia. Born on February 7, 1931, in Pembroke, Virginia, to Kemper Lee Radford and Edna Mae Williams, Nannie's life was a testament to the enduring power of love and the importance of family. Nannie Lou's journey through life was marked by her unwavering commitment to her loved ones. She married the love of her life, James Alfred Martin, and together they raised a close-knit family, instilling values of compassion and unity that would resonate through the generations. Although preceded in death by her husband, James, her daughter Abbie Jo Martin, her son Ted Martin, and her siblings Donald Lee Radford, Jewell Radford, Powell Radford, and Edna Radford, Nannie Lou's legacy of love lives on through her surviving children: Roger Martin (Margaret), Alvin Martin (Bridget), Patricia Wilson (Rick), Jeanetta Stivachtis (Yannis), and Marlene Hunt (David), as well as her cherished 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Nannie Lou was a devoted mother and grandmother, and her life's work was the care and happiness of her family. She was a constant presence in the lives of her children and grandchildren, always ready to cook a favorite meal, plan a family gathering, or offer a listening ear. Her love extended beyond her immediate family to her special friends and neighbors, Donnie and Madeline King, who held a dear place in her heart. Her interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. A true Hokie fan, Nannie Lou's enthusiasm for sports was infectious, and she could often be found cheering on her favorite teams with vigor. Her love for animals was evident in the gentle way she cared for every creature that crossed her path. Nannie Lou also found joy in the simple pleasure of walking, an activity that allowed her to appreciate the beauty of nature and the community she loved so much. Nannie Lou's presence was a gift to all who knew her, and her memory will be treasured forever. A memorial service will be conducted to honor her life on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg, Virginia with Pastor Gary Poff officiating.
