William Walkup Obituary

William Joseph "Bill" Walkup, Sr., age 81, of Alderson, WV, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at the Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea, WV, following a long illness. Born October 7, 1942 in Alderson, he was the son of the late Willie Elmer and Bonnie May Burns Walkup. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, William Joseph "Billy" Walkup, Jr.; one brother, Jeff Walkup; and one sister, Jane Crary. Mr. Walkup graduated from Alderson High School in 1960. He joined the United States Air Force in 1962 and honorably served his country until he was discharged in 1966. He returned to Alderson and married his wife Rosa, and they raised three children on their farm on Muddy Creek Mountain. Mr. Walkup loved farming and horses and was of the Methodist faith. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Rosa Maria Phillips Walkup of Alderson; two daughters, Donna Bryars of St. Robert, MO, and Bonnie White and her husband, Vince, of White Sulphur Springs, WV; one brother, Bobby Walkup and his wife, Janet, of Alderson; two sisters, Ruth Bragg of Huntington, WV, and Carol Reed and her husband, Gary, of Alderson; six grandchildren, Taylor Bryars, Caleb White (Amy), Jenni Carpenter (Seth), Dylan White, Mandy Quick (Ryan), and Zac Walkup (Bri); 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In keeping with his wishes, Mr. Walkup will be cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
