Virginia Mae (Stiles) Rowland 1929- 2025 Virginia Rowland. 96, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the Life Care Center in Cheyenne.
Virginia was born March 2, 1929, at home in Lincoln, Nebraska to Harry Stiles and Helen Randall. She was delivered by her father, Dr. Harry Stiles with assistance from her sister, Laura Minnette, age 11. Virginia was the youngest of five children. A great deal of time during her early years was spent on the Stiles Buttermilk Dairy with her grandmother, Minnie Etta Stiles. At the age of 4 1/2 Virginia started school at Normal School. The family then moved into town to live with her maternal grandmother, Laura Elizabeth Randall. Virginia attended Prescott Elementary, Irving High School, Lincoln High School, University Place and graduated from Northeast High School in 1946.
Virginia met Robert (Bob) Stanton Rowland who was stationed at Lincoln Air Force Base. They were married on July 3, 1954. After traveling extensively with Bob's military career, they settled in Cheyenne in 1973. At that time Virginia became an organizing member of the 911 Emergency Communication System where she was a radio and telephone dispatcher until 1976.
The flood in Cheyenne in 1985 inspired her to volunteer at the office of the American Red Cross where she did Damage Assessment in the downtown area and then assisted the professional Accountant doing Records and Reports. During this time, she met Jack and Pat Massman who were members of the Artists Guild. Their encouragement convinced her to join the Artists Guild. She officially became a member in 1986. As an involved member of the Cheyenne Artists Guild, she served on committees as well as holding the office of President several times. Ginny took many of the local workshops and very much enjoyed the comradery of the other artists. Virginia was elected President of the Altrusa Club and was a very active member until family responsibilites took priority. She won many ribbons and was fortunate enough to sell some of her paintings. Besides painting, Virginia's hobbies included bowling, genealogy, travel and volunteering in the community.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and her son Michael. She is survived by her sons, Terry (Diane) of Cheyenne and Dennis (Theresa) of Prescott Valley, Arizona, granddaughters Heather Sampson (Corey) of Cheyenne, Rachael McGhee (Ryan) of Windsor, Colorado, Christina Mitea (Jonnethen) of Avondale, Arizona, grandsons Rick Rowland (Michelle) of Prescott Valley, Arizona, and Benjamin Rowland (Tiffany) of Medford, Oregon. In addition, her great-grandchildren; Samantha, Harley, Jacob and Christian Sampson, Maverick and Jameson McGhee; Davey, Elliet, Hudson, and Michael Rowland; Aurora Mitea; Oliver Rowland.
Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date.
