David Caines Obituary

Whether you called him Dave, Gramps, Dadoo, Bubba, or by his Christian name, David Caines was a passionately loving and talented man. David passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025, at his home in Rock Hill, SC, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He grew up on James Island in Charleston, SC, where he spent time surfing at Folly Beach, singing in choirs and a rock band, and playing sports and games with his classmates and friends. For 48 years, his career in Information Technology took him to cities near and far, from working for the U.S. Air Force at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., to consulting in Copenhagen, Denmark. He started his own firm, DataCentric Consulting, as a Project Management Professional, and became a sought-after specialist in data center migration. He was a lifelong Episcopalian, gracing many churches and concert halls with his remarkably strong and melodious tenor voice. Travel was another passion of David's, and he enjoyed fun and exotic destinations in France, Italy, Germany, and even as far away as Australia and New Zealand, where he visited his cousins. Anyone who knew him well knew of David's expansive library of "Dad" jokes, which he was eager to share at any appropriate moment. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda Caines; his children Jon Caines (Melissa), Amanda Caines (Josh Wright), and Lacey Kashtock (Galen); his grandchildren, Carter Caines, Emmett Caines, Paige Mutz, Felix Kashtock, and Linus Kashtock; as well as two of his sisters, Sara Almon and Kathy Caines. His parents, Richard and Bonnie Caines, and his elder sister, Geraldine Smith, preceded him in death. We will celebrate David's life with a service on October 18, 2025, 2:00pm at Episcopal Church of Our Saviour in Rock Hill, SC. In lieu of flowers, David would welcome a donation in his honor to Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, York County Choral Society, or Hospice & Community Care of Rock Hill.
