William Medlin Obituary

William LaMont "Chief" Medlin, 85, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025, at C.M. Tucker Skilled Nursing, in Columbia, South Carolina. Mr. Medlin was born on October 1, 1940, to the late William Eugene Medlin and Maragaret "Margie" Blue Sanders, in Rock Hill, South Carolina. After being raised in Rock Hill, Mr. Medlin joined the military, where he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. After his time in the service, he worked for over 40 years as a truck driver and also worked as a carpenter for 20 years. Mr. Medlin also had a talent for woodworking. He created many pieces of furniture which are still utilized by his family today. In his pastime, Mr. Medlin loved riding horses. He had a strong love for both his horse, "Rook", and his dog, "Sheba." Mr. Medlin also loved going fishing and hunting. He loved his family very much and will be dearly missed. He is survived by his children, Tonda Medlin of Rock Hill, SC, Robin Harris of North Carolina, and Jesse J. Vanzant of Price, Utah; his sisters, Nona Jean Medlin Harris (Garland Wesley Harris Sr.) of Lawndale, NC, Sonja Nell Sanders of Charleston, SC; his grandchildren, Amy Auten, Donna Reynolds, Tiffany Ramsey, Timothy Miller, Katrina Beck, Aleasha Hansen, Isaac Hardee, Dustin Patterson, and Jaydee Patterson; and his great-grandchildren, Nathan, Jonathan, AJ, Neveah, Daniel, Heaven, Michael, Brooklyn, David, Dalton, Colton, Clayton, Graysen, Breckie, Weston, and Trig; Nona's children, Marsha McClelland Smith, Avon Park, Florida; Tracey Alexander Dailey, Monroeville, Alabama; Garland's children, Garland Wesley Harris Jr. of Rock Hill, SC, and Robin Kaye Harris Porter (Dwayne Porter) of Myrtle Beach, SC; and his numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his late parents; his daughter, Billie Jo Hansen; his brother, Charles Robert Medlin; his sisters, Freida Kaye Sanders and Stephanie Sanders; his granddaughter, Shirley Auten Scott; and his step-father, Fred Early Sanders. The family will begin receiving visitors at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. The visitation will be followed by a funeral ceremony beginning at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1989 Reservation Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29730.
