Barbara A. Rupert

York - Barbara A. (Avis) Rupert, 84, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Providence Place Retirement Community.

Born on August 21, 1936 in York, she was a daughter of the late Martin Luther and Grace Athelma (Brockley) Avis. Barbara worked in the personnel department at Sam's Club until her retirement in 2006. She was a member at Starview United Church of Christ in Mt. Wolf. At her church, she attended Sunday school, served on church council, helped with vacation bible school and other church events. When Barbara wasn't working or volunteering at the church, she enjoyed reading and spending time at a beach in Delaware.

Barbara is survived by a son, Martin Shaffer and wife, Mary; daughters, Linda Hively and husband, Morgan, Tammy Duke and Cathy Henry; four grandchildren, Rick, Ashley, Sara and Shawn; ten great grandchildren, Whitney, Kyle, Alex, Astrid, Taylor, Killian, Van, Meshel, Damian and Brianna, and great great grandchild, Blaine. She is preceded in death by son, Michael Shaffer; grandchild, Aaron Henry; great grandchild, Aspen Shaffer; brother, Walter Avis and sister, Norma Wilson.

A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held at a later date. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
