It is hard to believe Barry has been gone 2 years. I still and always will have fond memories of the Ski trips , not only with Barry and Helen, but his brother , David, and his wife Barbara, to Sutton , Canada , Camelback, and to Tremblant, Canada. Many laughs and jokes told about each other. Barry had away to exaggerate the truth and embellish the story each time told.
He was a fun friend.

It's been a year since our dear friend Barry has passed. A day doesn't go by that we don't remember him in some way. We miss his happy greetings as he'd be taking the trash to the bin and we miss seeing him in the parking lot enjoying a cigarette. I miss the afternoon card games that he most often won. Living so close together these last 16 years has allowed us to share so much time together, a gift we'll always treasure. We miss you, Barry.

Barry was the first teacher I became friends with when I started my teaching job in Dover. After getting married in October of 1966 and returning from a wer honeymoon I began my traveling art teacher job. After one week of teaching all the kids, I had to enter the 1,100 grades in the computer. Barry was there to help as I'd never used a computer before and the rest is history. We developed a life long friendship, sharing ski and beach vacations and have ended up in the same retirement community for the past 15 years. Bob and I will miss our dear friend of 54 years so very much. Barry was a big part of our lives as well as the lives of all of our four children and extended family. Rest in peace, Barry, not a day will pass without remembering one of the many funny stories you told so well.

Whenever the smell of bacon was in the air, Barry would appear from his condo above at Wynmoor...he would also lament that the only time he got cookies was when us "kids" were coming to visit. I will remember him kindly, including the time he asked me to sign a "oath to stop cheating" at cards! I was too far behind to help myself, but Aunt Helen was within striking distance and I would discard high point cards to help her beat Barry at canasta! If you ever played cards with Barry, you can imagine his reaction to our collusion!

Uncle Barry was one of two uncles (the other is Uncle Jan) who, along with my stepdad (David), and their sister Carol, "adopted" me from the start as if I was an Eisenhart by birth, as did all the Eisenharts, Burkmanns, Wilsons, Ritters and Sipes.

The three brothers took me fishing, swimming, skated on local ponds and creeks and we played a lot of sports. Uncle Barry was a natural athlete and had a gift for coaching young people. What set him apart as a coach was his ability to see the good in you, help you see it and inspire you from there. The photo shows Barry and me from the 1970s when he was part of the York Basketball Camp staff. I had no talent for basketball, btw. Uncle Barry was also the chief author of a letter from Santa, drafted to keep me in the believer's column for one more year. And if you read it now, there are many veiled references to how bad his brothers were. Hilarious. Lots of great memories of those years as a kid, but my most recent memories are from the "hot dog" excursions to Fuller Lake over the last several years...the somewhat staged bickering over how to build a fire, how much mustard to use, who had it easiest growing up, and the three different versions of every tall tale. Pricelessly funny and genuine rituals of true brotherhood.

Barry was my favorite teacher at Dover H. S.. He made History so interesting. I was in his class in 1971, when I was a junior. We reconnected in 2012, after many years. We enjoyed a lunch at the Altland House or late breakfast in East Berlin and a stroll around my yard, in the summers, when he and Helen would come back to York for a visit. I enjoyed catching up with him and receiving letters throughout the last 8 years. I know he took good care of his wife, Helen. I will miss him. Prayers and special thoughts for Helen and the rest of his family. He was a good teacher and friend.

I have many great memories of my Uncle. Two of them stand out the most. The picture above was taken when he unexpectantly became my husband best man at our wedding. Something came up at the last minute and his original choice couldn’t make it. My uncle graciously accepted when asked and was amazing! He stepped up to the plate and hit it out of the park. Knowing his love of baseball, I thought he would appreciate the baseball analogy.
The last memory I’ll mention was the time I had the honor of accompanying both my father and uncle to Fuller’s lake. Even though I was a “Girl” they decided to let me tag along, I think my mother made them. It was very entertaining to watch both brothers in action. I had no idea the amount of work and skill that went into making a fire for grilling hotdogs. I especially enjoyed the pure delight my uncle expressed when it came to eating them. You would have thought he was sampling the most expensive caviar instead of an Oscar Myer wiener. It was the simple things that I think brought him the most happiness. All I know is every time I’ll eat a hotdog from now on, I’ll fondly think of him.

My condolences to his entire family. Reading the few memories that have been placed before mine, I see he positively touched the lives of a lot of students, including mine. He was a great teacher, making his classes interesting, fun and engaging. As you read through these memories and those that follow, I'm sure you will hear many similar sentiments. Mr. E had a positive impact and many, many lives. Something we all wish we could say of ourselves. I hope you can find some comfort in the fact that his legacy will live on through all of his past students. There's a little bit of Mr. E in each of us. The world was made a little better because of people like him.

I was so sorry to hear that Mr. Eisenhart passed away. He was a great teacher and one of my favorite too. His class is the only time I every enjoyed history. I think all the girls had a crush on him too. He was a lot of fun and we never had a boring class. I ran into him several years after graduation and he still remembered me. He was one of the best.

Funny personality. He had a love for golf so great that even at the end of his life he talked to GOD to give him more time to reduce his handicap.
Helen and the many friends here in Florida will miss him dearly.
May he rest in peace .
