Carl Keener Obituary

YORK TOWNSHIP Carl E. Keener, 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 5 at Manor Care - South. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Geraldine (Myers) Keener. Mr. Keener was born in Jacobus on October 4, 1926, and was the son of the late Levi and Dora (Dise) Keener. Carl was a veteran of WWII, proudly serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Neunzer. He worked for Dentsply as a mold cutter and retired after 45 years of service. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and doing home repair. He was a lifetime member of Salem Lutheran Church of Jacobus and was a member of the Prince AA Club and the Dallastown American Legion Post #605. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Cynthia A. Hornberger and her husband Rick of Dallastown; two grandsons, Richard C. Hornberger and his wife Becky of Lebanon and Daniel T. Hornberger and his companion, Amber Black, of Dover. He is also survived by three siblings, Romaine Schaefer, Preston Keener and Lola Jacobs; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lorie Barshinger; and two brothers, Merle Keener and Millard Keener. A funeral service to honor Carl's life will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, May 8 at Salem Lutheran Church, 99 York Road, Jacobus, with Pastor Tina Minnich officiating. A viewing will be held at the church on Friday and will begin at 10 a.m. until the start of the services. Interment will follow in Salem Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Carl's name can be made to Salem Lutheran Church, 99 York Road, Jacobus, PA 17407. The Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., Dallastown, is in charge of arrangements. HIS legacy still lives on.
He would be so very proud to know that both of his grandsons are very successful men AND all of his great grandchildren are healthy and wise beyond their ages.
He is still missed and LOVED by so many.

Mr. Keener was one of the nicest, sweetest men I ever met. He will be missed by so many, but it is comforting to know he will be watching over us.
