David Dellinger Obituary

RED LION David 'Red' Dellinger, 93, passed away on March 13, 2010, at Manor Care South. He was born on March 1, 1917, in East Prospect, to the late Robert and Myrtle (Clemons) Dellinger. He is survived by his wife, Mildred (Hengst) Dellinger of Red Lion; a daughter, Connie (Bob) Fish of Green Valley, Ariz.; a granddaughter Karen (Dan); and great-grandchildren, Caroline, Carter, and Chloe Chraska of Lantana, Texas; a grandson, Barry Craft of Spring Hill, Tenn.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Viola Kohler. During WWII, Red worked at the Red Lion Tool Company. He ground the part (for Frankfort Arsenal) which was one of the last pieces placed in the atomic bomb. He built the West End Service Station in Red Lion which he owned and operated for 46 years. He was a member of the York Squadron Motorcycle Club, the American Motorcycle Association (AMA), the Red Lion Historical Society, and St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Red's first motorcycle was a 1933 Harley Davidson, and he continued to be an avid Harley rider until the 1990's, when health problems forced him to hang-up his boots and helmet. He served as President of the York Squadron Motorcycle Club in the 1940's. He joined the AMA in 1942 and after 50 years became a life member of the organization. 'Red,' "Dad," "Paw Paw," "Great Grandpa Dellinger," "Uncle Red," will be remembered by all whose lives he touched. He was a thoughtful, caring man who offered help to those he barely knew. To his family, he was the sweetest, most upbeat, wonderful man we knew. He was proud of us, and we will continue to strive to be everything good he expected us to be. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 45 First Ave., Red Lion, with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Charles W. Salisbury, officiating. Viewings will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church prior to the service and on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Life Tributes by Olewiler and Heffner, 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion. Interment will be in Red Lion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 45 First Ave., Red Lion, PA 17356. Mil, Connie and extended family,
We were so sorry to hear of Red's passing. We used to ride motorcycles with Red and Mil to Friendly Farms buffet bar. We will never forget the fun we had. We will never forget what a kind and friendly man he was. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Mildred and Family,
We were sorry to hear that your husband passed away. We pray the Lord will hold you in his hands as you all continue thru your loss. I worked at Sterner's, we went to the races together, bought two motorcycles from him, I also worked on his race car. We had some good times. My God Bless you all!

To Mil, Connie and Family: Our deepest
sympathy on Red's passing. Bill remembers all the good times at the service station and we remember all the enjoyable Gear Grinders' reunions and breakfasts. We're sorry we will not be able to attend the funeral as we are still in Florida.

I had a chance to meet Mr Dellinger in the dining room at Country Meadows where I work and thought how nice he was. I didn't get a chance to get to know him personally , but I enjoyed his smile and observed how well he took care of his wife. What a nice man. I wish I would have know he liked Motorcycles. I too, ride. We would have had something to discuss!!
