Doris Renn Obituary

RED LION Doris Ann (Reed) Renn died Saturday, February 19, 2011, at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore, Md. She was the widow of Paul J. Renn Jr., who died October 18, 1999 and who she married on January 27, 1952. She was born on August, 19, 1928, in Allentown, to the late Jacob H. and C. Martha (Wahrmann) Reed and was also the daughter of Marjorie Anna (Newhart) Reed. Doris was a graduate of John Harris High School in Harrisburg and attended Elizabethtown College. She started her employment with Bell Telephone Co., Harrisburg, transferring to their York Office in 1954, where she remained as a management employee and retired with 38-1/2 years service. Doris was a 50 plus years member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Daughters of Grace Sunday School Class in Red Lion and was a member and past President of the Red Lion Business and Professional Women's Club. She was very active in the Masonic affiliated organizations as a Past Mother Advisor of Valkyrie Assembly #181, International Order of Rainbow for Girls, from which she received The Grand Cross of Color in 1976, also a Past Grand Deputy of Rainbow. A member of Rainbow Chapter #517, Order of Eastern Star, a Past Matron of the Chapter and Past District Deputy, District 16D. She was a member and Past Royal Matron and Past Royal Patron of Dr. J. M. Hyson Memorial Court #106, Order of the Amaranth. She held many State offices in the Order of Amaranth and in 1998-1999 was Grand Royal Matron, Order of the Amaranth for the State of PA. She was also a charter member of the Yorktowne Cedarettes, a member and Past Queen of Ozemb Temple #52, Daughters of the Nile, a member of Elizabethtown Assembly #265, Social Order of Beauceant, and a member of Sumaria Shrine #43, White Shrine of Jerusalem. Doris is survived by her three grandsons: Paul J. Renn IV, Jonathan D. Renn, and Josiah M. L. Renn; daughter, Dr. Cynthia L. Renn of Baltimore, Md.; son, Paul Jacob. Renn III., his wife Donna and her daughter Caroline of Monrovia, Md.; a sister, Martha J. Hansen and husband Roland of Gettysburg; a brother, Robert R. Reed of Harrisburg; and her three nephews: Mark and wife Donna, Andrew and wife Sherri, Jonathan and wife Chris Hansen and their children; and niece, Joanna and husband John Raveris and their children; sister and brother-in-law, Kathryn R. and George Runkle. Lastly, Doris is survived by her faithful dog, Dolly, and two granddogs, Ben and Roz. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at 11 a.m. with a luncheon to follow. The services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 220 North Charles St., Red Lion, with her daughter-in-Law officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Grace Lutheran Church, 220 North Charles St., Red Lion, PA 17356; The Amaranth Diabetes Research Project, c/o Emily S. Moyer, Grand Secretary, 133 Hillcrest Lane, Elizabethtown, PA 17022; Shriners Childrens Hospitals, c/o Zembo Temple, 2801 North Third St., Harrisburg, PA 17110; or the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, BSO Development Office, 1212 Cathedral St., Baltimore, MD 21201.

We are sincerely sorry to hear of the passing of Doris. We hope you will find peace and strength in your faith, family and friends at this time of loss.

Mrs. Renn---Time and distance makes it hard to keep up with one another, but one of the highlights of my life was Rainbow and Drill Team and I remember you from that time. You were one of those that made those days so enjoyable.
