Earl Hansford Obituary

YORK Earl L. (Jr.) Hansford, 61, entered into rest on Sunday, March 1, 2009, at 9:45pm at his home with his wife Sandra, with whom he celebrated 48 years of marriage on January 4, 2009, and other family members by his side. Earl was born on July 3, 1947, in York, to George Hansford and the late Francis (Steinkamp) Hansford. Earl was a machinist for over 40 years and a member of the 13th Ward Shiloh Legions and Hawks Club. Earl also served his country in the United Stated Army for 2 years. In addition to his loving wife, Earl leaves to cherish his memory: one daughter, Melissa Walton and husband, Greg of Lancaster County; father, George Hansford and wife, Carol of Manchester; two sisters, Barb and Stella Hansford of York; one brother, John Hansford and wife, April of Craley; two nieces, four nephews and a host of friends. Earl was preceded in death by his mother, Francis Hansford; a brother, Jimmy Hansford; and a sister, Connie Lewis. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to: Cancer Center of John Hopkins 600 N. Wolfe St. Baltimore, MD. 21287; or White Rose Hospice c/o Memorial Hospital 325 S. Belmont St. York, Pa. 17403. Mr. Hansford remains will be donated to Anatomy Gifts Registry in Maryland. Arrangements are being handled by Boulding Mortuary, Inc., 471 Madison Avenue, York.

Sandy, I'm so sorry to learn about Earl's illness and passing. He was such a great guy, and I feel very fortunate to have known him when I was young and impressionable. I have so many fond memories of Earl, and his example will always be part of who I am.

Earl could bring a smile to anyone's face. I will always think of him as someone who was fiercely loyal to his family and friends. He really was a "salt of the earth" person.

I was saddened to learn of Earl's passing. I remember him as a kid and all the fun times we had at Westminster Park. Our fathers were good friends.
