Frederick Spangler Obituary

Spangler DOVER Frederick A. "Fred" Spangler, 76, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2012, at Carlisle Regional Medical Center, Cumberland County. He was the husband of Ellen R. (Garvick) Spangler with whom he celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on October 2, 2011. Mr. Spangler was born in East Berlin on April 15, 1936, son of the late Lewis D. and Helen O. (Baker) Spangler. Fred was employed by the Certainteed Roofing Co. for 18 years, P&S Small for which he retired after 15 years, and continued to work at the York Interstate Fair for the past seven years. He was a member of the Viking Athletic Assoc. and the East Berlin Fire Co. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, camping and fishing. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Michael A. Spanger, and his wife, Kathy of Shiloh, Deb R. King and her husband, Scott of Emigsville, and Mitchel E. Spangler and his companion, Jennifer Toomey of West York; four grandchildren, Jaime L. Wilkins, Michael R. Spangler, Travis S. King, Lance T. King; five great-grandchildren, McKenzi N. Wilkins, Addy G. Wilkins, Avery E. Spangler, Grayson M. Spanger, Wyatt D. King; two sisters, Jean Byers of Dover, Darlene Entler of Glen Rock; and several nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by three brothers. Funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the LeRoy R. Leber Funeral Home, Inc., 2290 School St., York (Shiloh). Officiating will be Assoc. Pastor Kent D. Vandervort from Stillmeadow Church of the Nazarene. Final resting place will be in East Berlin Union Cemetery, East Berlin. There will be a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made, in Fred's name, to Heartland Hospice, 3417 Concord Rd., York, PA 17402.
