Glenn Wise Obituary

Glenn L. Wise, Jr., 75, died suddenly and unexpectedly Satur day evening, October 14, 2006, at York Hospital. He was the loving husband of Joan L. (Koons) Wise, with whom he celebrated 56 happy years of marriage on October 12, 2006. He was born November 12, 1930, in Red Lion, a son of the late Glenn L. Wise, Sr., and Iva C. (Sechrist) Wise. He attended Red Lion Area School District, playing basketball and football under the leadership of the late Charles Nitchkey, and graduating in 1949. He then served in the PA National Guard from 1949 to 1958, receiving his honorable discharge after nine years of service. Glenn was employed with GTE for 32 years, retiring in December of 1991. He was a long-time member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where he served as trustee, head usher, and in various other capacities. He was a Boy Scout leader of Troop 28 in the 1960's and 70's, and later went on to lead Explorer Post No. 28 at St. Paul's. Glenn was a volunteer ambulance driver, EMT, Director of Operations, and past member of the Board of Directors of the Red Lion Area Ambulance Association. In 1981, Glenn received the Distinguished Service Award from the Red Lion Jaycees. He was also the proud recipient of the Catherine Meyer Award in 2004, for his outstanding achievement in service to the Borough of Red Lion. He also very much enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his life with family and friends. In addition to his wife, Glenn is also survived by a son, Jeffrey Wise and his wife, Virginia of Felton; a daughter, Stephanie (Wise) Knaper and her husband, Mickey of Red Lion; a son, Thomas Wise and his wife, Melody, also of Red Lion; six grandchildren who loved him dearly, Anthony and Angela Wise, Jenna and Katie Knaper, and Megan and Mitchell Wise; two brothers, Harold Sechrist and William Wise and his wife, Rosemary; one sister, Sharon (Wise) Master and her husband, Carroll; nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 45 First Ave., Red Lion, with his pastor, the Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Burial will be held in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Joan,
I am so sorry for your loss - Glenn was one of the first people I ran EMS with at Red Lion Ambulance, since then everytime I have seen him we have reminisced about all of the great times we had...most recently it was because of your back pain that I got to enjoy visiting a few last times with him, he always had me laughing...he will be sadly missed.

To my favorite Junior high band director and all of his family:

May God bless each of you in this difficult time with strength, perseverance, and peace in the promise of eternal life. While I didn’t really know Glenn Wise, it is obvious that he cared deeply for the community of Red Lion. His commitment certainly rubbed off. I have the utmost respect for his sons, Jeff and Tom, and all the time they have given and the dedication they have shown to the Red Lion community and its kids via the creative and holy instrument of music. May God take your sadness and transform it into joy somewhere in the music.

Tom, Melody, and extended family,

my deepest condolences on the passing of your loved one. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

Saturday was a joyous day in heaven, when another child of God came home. May knowing your father went to be with his Lord make this difficult time a little bit easier.

Sincerely,
