Harold Bixler Obituary

HANOVER Harold 'Bix' E. Bixler, 80, entered into God's eternal care, Sunday, December 19, 2010, at his home. Harold was the loving husband of Yvonne G. (Weaver) Bixler to whom he was married for 32 years. Born February 24, 1930, in Hanover, he was the son of the late Wilson E. Sr. and Mary I. (Bankert) Bixler. Harold retired in 1995 after 24 years of managing the Hanover Republican club. Harold was a member of the Hanover Elks Lodge 763, Littlestown Fraternal Order of the Eagles #2226, McSherrystown Moose Lodge 720, and the Hanover Republican Club, where he was a past president. He was a life member of the McSherrystown Home Association as well as the Parkville Fire Company. In addition to his wife, Harold is survived by two sons, David L. Bixler of Hanover, and Franklin L. Bixler Florida; one daughter, Joyce Y. Smith and husband, Thomas of Hanover; two step daughters, Carolyn E. Markle and husband, Joseph of Hanover, and Deanna E. Moyer of Enola; three grandchildren, Lynn M. Bixler, Francine L. Matthews, David L. Bixler II; four step grandchildren, Stacy M. Parsons, Nicholas L. Moyer, Brynn N. Moyer, and Joel A. Markle; one brother, Wilson E. Bixler of Hanover; and one sister, Alice A. Hull of Hanover. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Rebecca G. Bixler; one brother, Marlyn K. Bixler; and one sister, Doris M. 'Nadine' Gladfelter. A funeral service to celebrate and remember Harold's life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick St., Hanover, with the Rev. Dr. Daniel M. Yeiser officiating. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover. Serving as casketbearers will be James Prior, Stewart Bailey II, Raphael Sanders, David Bixler, Thomas Smith, and Todd Ditzler.In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Harold may be made to Asera care Hospice, 44 Bowman Road, York, PA 17404; or God's Meal Barrel, 413 Baltimore Street, Hanover, PA 17331.Memories and condolences may be shared at www.kenworthyfh.com

I'm so sorry to hear about Bix's death. When he would come to Jim Wrights's butcher shop, he would always give me tips and show me a better way to do whatever job that I was doing there. He was a great man!!
